Linda Stewart

Biography

Lindas love of animals, particularly horses, has been instrumental in her choice of subject matter. She got her first horse at the age of twelve and has had horses ever since. Linda has also pursued her interest in art since childhood - winning awards as early as elementary school. Throughout her school years, Linda enrolled in every art instruction course that was available to her, this is a practice which she continues today as time permits. Although Linda is keenly interested in oil painting, sculpting has been her main vehicle of expression, her main focus being: representing contemporary cowboy lifestyle in bronze. Linda sets high standards for herself, striving to achieve authenticity in subject matter and accuracy in both detail and proportion. Ultimately Linda's strong and distinctive sculpting style have made her one of Canada's most beloved sculptors. Her sculptures, whether they depict cowboys on horses or North American wildlife, show a clean artistic sense of design. Born in British Columbia, Linda makes her home in the Rocky Mountain foothills. Her work is well known in Western Canada and resides in both corporate and public collections all over the world. A favorite at the Calgary Stampede, she has twice been awarded "Best of Show" for sculpture and the "Collector's Choice" award. Linda Stewart has participated in numerous art & gallery shows as well as being featured in benefits for Ducks Unlimited, B.C. Wildlife Federation, S.T.A.R.S. and the Glenbow Museum. She received her first commission in 1980 and has been sculpting ever since. A diverse artist, Linda has also designed and sculpted a line of jewelry as well as owning and operating a foundry where she was able to cast her own sculptures.
