Carole Danyluk, raised and educated in Alberta, now calls British Columbia home. Her lifetime interest in the fine arts led her to a B.A. (Art & Design) from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Art Education from the University of Calgary. In 1989, after teaching high school art in Alberta for 5 years, Carole accepted the challenges of bronze sculpture full time. The artist's philosophy of 3-dimensional design encompasses two important tenets. Firstly, that the strength and versatility of bronze should be used to achieve what other media cannot, and secondly, that the beauty and lustre of natural bronze should be used in patina wherever possible. Carole's line of artwork includes sculptures up to 25 inches tall as well as smaller, functional items such as doorknockers and letter openers. "A doorknocker is more than a simple convenience," she says. "It can be a personal statement about the home and the people who live there. It can be a symbol of the passions and interests of the inhabitants and it can be a simple way to add elegance and charm to an interior or exterior entryway. I learned from the Europeans and Argentinians how beautiful and relevant hardware of all kinds can be. It should reflect us - who we are and what we love." Carole Danyluk has re-invented a centuries-old concept with her bronze doorknockers. "It's artwork in its most hands-on form." Carole's distinctive sculpture is known for its graceful line and attention to detail. Her work is exhibited and collected internationally.
