About Merv Brandel"My inspiration to paint comes from everything around me and there is no limit to the possibilities. I take time to study the important visual things about the subject such as the direction of light, the colours, the time of year and the power of nature on the subject. I try not to limit myself to a particular subject. I travel around the countryside sketching and photographing interesting places and objects and then go back to my studio with all this information and start painting.
The thing I love most about painting is the process, which includes a constant searching and learning. It's also the emotional connection between the artist and the viewer that I find most rewarding. I try to depict whatever is presented and observed anduse my abilities to make the viewer see what I saw. I want the work to express my ideas, emotions and moods. I learn something new about painting almost every day."
